I like the presentation of the Deluxe kit. The packaging is crisp and bright and everything fits together nicely. The “membership card” is a neat idea that several other electronic cigarette brands are beginning to include in their kits. One of the main benefits of electronic cigarettes is that you can legally use them almost anywhere. However, I have had one experience where I was asked to stop vaping at a theater, and maybe this card would have helped my case.

I tested the two batteries – one long and one short. The short battery looks more like a traditional cigarette, while the long battery lasts surprisingly longer before needing to be recharged. Also included in the kit are a 5-pack of various flavored cartomizers and a short wall charger. Each cartomizer contains a fresh atomizer and is color-coded to indicate the flavor. Also printed on each cartomizer is a number specifying the nicotine strength.

It took me no time to get used to the draw on the Deluxe e-cig. There are four holes between the battery and cartomizer to allow air to be pulled into the cartomizer, which activates the battery. Typically, two-piece models have smaller holes or none at all. When I tried to take the light, slow drags that I’m used to with these types of electronic cigarettes, I wasn’t having much luck. After taking a harder and quicker drag, I got a pretty decent amount of vapor and a good throat hit. An advantage of having larger holes is that the increased airflow keeps the atomizer much cooler than normal. This means that the flavor doesn’t change the more you use it. Below is a rundown of each cartridge flavor:

• Tobacco – Highest vapor volume. Good flavor. Good throat-hit. My favorite.
• Menthol – Slightly less vapor production than tobacco. More minty that menthol. Great throat hit.
• Chocolate – Good vapor production. Great taste. Decent throat hit.
• Cherry – Good vapor production. Average cherry taste. Solid throat hit.
• Vanilla – Good vapor production. Very subtle taste. Easy throat hit.

FireBrand Cigs and their branding is something to be admired. Everything is put together very well and is fun to look at. When I got the starter kit, I didn’t believe everything could fit into the little box. I opened it up and saw that it did indeed include two batteries, two atomizers, 5 cartridges, user manual and a wall charger. The starter kits are very customizable; you can choose between automatic/manual, regular/mega, and black/platinum batteries. You can also choose between the regular and Hellfire atomizers.

Low-resistance atomizers are an awesome new addition to e-cig land. They heat up faster and hotter than traditional atomizers and create more vapor and throat hit. I also sometimes prefer manual batteries because the push-button lets you control exactly how much vapor you get. For these reasons, we got these options with our kit.

When I plugged in one of the pre-filled high nicotne, tobacco-flavored cartridges, I instantly got an amazing amount of vapor and perfect throat-hit. There was virtually no warm-up or break-in time with the Hellfire atomizers. The taste of the Firebrand Cigs tobacco e-liquid is also excellent. It is smooth and a perfect replacement to traditional cigarettes.

As mentioned, we also got some Sophisto empty cartridges and two 5mL bottles of high nicotine vanilla Liquitine. I’ve tried out both the VG and PG vanilla Liquitine and I am very pleased with both. The vanilla flavor is very noticeable and quite delicious. VG e-liquid is made using vegetable glycerine while PG e-liquid is made from propylene glycol. I find the taste of both liquids to be very similar. However, the vapor from the VG Liquitine seems somewhat “creamier” and produces slightly more vapor and throat-hit. The other advantage of VG e-liquid is that it doesn’t clog atomizers as quickly as PG e-liquid.

As more and more electronic cigarette companies join the industry, many rush in without any sort of plan. This results in poor products, customer service and overall experience. Firebrand (Brand Diablo), on the other hand, has obviously planned everything out fully. The staff is very enjoyable to deal with, the products are top-notch, pricing is great and everything comes together flawlessly. I was so pumped when I first started using my new Cirrus II electronic cigarette by White Cloud. It is a smooth and tasty, semi-sweet, nutty flavor that always leaves me wanting more. With the great flavor comes an amazing throat hit that is identical to my old smokes – Parliament Lights. The vapor production is also almost exactly the same as an analog. Needless to say, I am wowed by the full-flavored tobacco cartomizers. There is a lot of talk about Vapor4Life around the internet. The batteries vary by color and length and came in both manual and automatic styles. Over the past few days I have tried every option and I am extremely impressed.

I was worried when I first started using the Vapor King with the Wow Vapor cartomizers because they weren’t creating much vapor at all. Luckily I kept using them and after about five minutes of use, each cartomizer began creating a great amount of vapor. I do wish the cartomizers would prime quicker, but the vapor production is very impressive. Even more impressive are the flavors and throat hit from each cartomizer. With the exception of the French Vanilla Ice Cream, each e-liquid tasted exactly like the real thing. My favorite flavors are the Cowboy Menthol, Mango, and Coffee. I also love the throat hit that I get with each cartomizer. The sensation is noticeable and strong but never irritating.

The portable charging case (PCC) is very easy to use and is very useful for when you’re away from home for a long time. The battery screws in easily and also holds two cartomizers. Unfortunately you can’t really use the PCC with some of the manual batteries because the button gets pressed down when you close the case, which turns the battery on. The good news is that the batteries can last up to a day of regular vaping before they die. The cartomizers also last very long. When I took my first drag, I was blown away.  Every other electronic cigarette I have used required a slight priming period before you would get large amounts of vapor.  The Duo Electronic Cigarette by Fifty-One puts out so much vapor from the very first puff that you will cloud the room.  The throat hit was great and the sensation was very similar to smoking a regular cigarette.  On some of the bigger puffs, I actually started to cough because it was too much vapor.  Don’t worry, you can control the amount of vapor you get by the length of drags you take.  The flavor tastes pretty close to Tobacco, although I have tasted flavors that were closer in comparison.

The length of the cart life was around 1 pack in my estimation.  It delivers quite the bang for the buck.  I used this out at the Madison’s Club in Madison, WI and drew plenty of attention from those around me as I competed with the fog machine that the DJ was using.   This electronic cigarette will leave you satisfied on all levels.  If you are more of a menthol smoker than a traditional tobacco smoker, Fifty-One has a menthol cartridge for you as well.  This cart tastes close to menthol, however it does have a slight mint taste to it. This is a great advantage of the Revolver Infiniti Ion – it is really easy to refill with new e-liquid. Simply peel the tinfoil off of your empty cartridge and drop new liquid into it. When I recorded the video review (you can watch it by clicking the blue play button on the image at the top of this post) I complained that Revolver didn’t include rubber caps to keep the e-liquid in the cartridges if you refill them. The next day I was checking out Revolver’s forum and noticed that they are now offering the caps and are even sending free caps to anyone who has purchased an Infiniti Ion in the past. Just another example of Revolver listening to customer feedback and acting upon it.

There are so many awesome aspects of the Infiniti Ion but one of the best has to be the personal charging case, or PCC. This isn’t your average PCC, it’s a smart PCC. This case stops charging your battery when it is full so it doesn’t wear it out. It has an LED display on the front that shows you how much power is left to charge your batteries. It has an ultra-bright blue LED flashlight on the bottom. Finally, it can hold five cartridges, an atomizer and two batteries. I love this case!

I took all the components out of the box and was able to get vaping in a minute flat. While I do recommend you fully charge your batteries before use, they do hold enough charge to just take a couple puffs.  If you are like me, when you get a product like the Hendu Elite, you become a kid on Christmas and can’t wait to use it as soon as it is in your hands.  The very first drag produced nearly the same amount of vapor as the rest of the the drags on the unit.  Almost EVERY E Cigarette Stater Kit I have used required priming of some sort.  I am not sure what the difference is that Smoke Stik does, but I am glad they do!

The throat hit was very good  in the fact that it isn’t too soft or too hard during use.  The taste is a nice fruity tobacco taste that actual worked very well for me (my old brand was Marlboro).  Every drag of the Hendu Elite was as good as the last one.  The vapor production is not at the level or Green Smoke, but it does perform better.  The Hendu Elite E Cigarette puts out a little more vapor than a cigarette’s smoke, so it meets the needs.

E-rette was one of the first electronic cigarette companies to sell electronic cigars. Their disposable electronic cigar is amazingly similar to a traditional cigar from the draw to the taste and sensation. In fact, if it weren’t for the lack of tobacco leaves stuck in your teeth and bad breath, you might forget that you aren’t smoking a real cigar.

I rarely smoked cigars so I’m no expert. However, I once in a while went old school with a White Russian and a cigar at our local cigar lounge. I tried a variety from cheap to expensive and I know what I like, but it took a bit of trial and error. For this reason, I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed the E-rette Disposable Cigar from the first puff. The draw is very similar to a larger cigar, requiring a stronger puff than most electronic cigarettes. The taste is semi-sweet at first and turns into a smooth, full-bodied flavor. The vapor production is also impressive.

Of course there are some differences between the E-rette disposable electronic cigar and a traditional cigar. Because the majority of the e-cigar is a large battery, it is much heavier than its tobacco-filled counterpart. Also, the mouthpiece is hard-plastic so you can’t bite down or chew on it in the same fashion as a traditional cigar. Luckily, I don’t really realize these differences after using the electronic cigar for a little while.

When we first received our Mini Disposable Cigar made by E-rette, we were surprised at how similar it was to a real cigar. The flavor was indicated to be Cuban and while I cannot verify this (not having even smoked a Cuban, go easy on me!), It did taste like a premium quality cigar. They advertise it as offering 600 puffs per cigar and we found that to be very accurate. Ours actually lasted longer than that, however it will vary based on how you use it and how much vapor you draw from it with each drag. These currently only are offered at 16mg nicotine levels, however that should fit most consumers.

The highlights are that it comes fully charged and ready to go. All you do is push in the tip to activate it and you are ready to start vaping with your new electronic cigar. This was a breeze and made life good because I didn’t have to wait 3 hours for it to charge. I am all about simplicity and this meet those needs. Another great benefit is the ability to take a few puffs of the e cigar and put it away and take it out later. If you’ve been to a mall or gas station lately, you’ve probably seen the Krave disposable e-cigs being sold next to Fifty-One’s starter kits. This is the case in Wisconsin where Electronic Cigarette Nation is based. The Krave is a sub-brand of Fifty-One. Up until recently we dismissed the Fifty-One family as a Smoking Everywhere wannabe. But after getting over my ego, I decided to see what Fifty-One and the Krave were all about.

After being thoroughly impressed by The Duo by Fifty-One, the Krave 500 disposable electronic cigarette had a lot to live up to. The Krave 500 comes in Tobacco and Menthol flavors and I chose Tobacco. The packaging is simple and is obviously made for being sold in stores. After finagling the Krave 500 out of it’s case, I first noticed it’s size. It’s very large but this is justified by it’s claims of giving “up to 500 puffs.”  Next I noticed that it is one solid piece. I’ve used other disposable e-cigs but the battery always unscrews from the cartomizer. I realized that this doesn’t really make sense as there isn’t a need to take a disposable apart. I popped off the cap, pulled off the “intake” hole-covering sticker and went to town.

The Krave 500 in Tobacco flavor has a very organic taste. There is no sweetness to it, and it actually tastes somewhat like burning tobacco leaves. I wasn’t sure about the flavor after my first few puffs, but it quickly grew on me. I still prefer other e-liquids much more than the Krave Tobacco flavor, but it is pretty nice. The throat hit is very subtle, yet strangely satisfying. To top it off, the vapor production is great.

Disposables are meant for people who are interested in trying electronic cigarettes, but don’t want to invest in expensive starter kits. If you are a smoker of ultra-light cigarettes (as they used to call them) and are on the fence, try out the Krave 500. Fifty-One also sells a Krave Disposable “pack” which consists of three pieces and comes with four cartridges; we hope to test it out soon.

Cloud 9 offers one of the most unique electronic cigarettes that we have seen at a very affordable price.  With a limited amount of drawbacks with this e-cig, the Cloud 9 501 – 502 Hybrid is a good option for consumers who are unsure of what style they may want.  The reason we call it unique is due to the ability to use the same battery for the three piece model as the two piece.  What does this mean you may ask?  It means you can buy either kit and if you want a change you can buy cartomizers (cartridges with a new atomizer built in every one) or empty carts and an atomizer and switch out whenever you want.  You finally have the low cost choice to change between convenience and higher cost savings.

Cloud 9 sent us the 501 Electronic Cigarette and the 502 E Cigarette along with e-liquid and some accessories to review.

The 502 E Cig is configurable for consumers to select how much product they want for the price.  All of the 502 e-cig kits come with 2 batteries, 5 cartomizers, 1 wall charger, and 1 user manual.  The high end kit comes with a USB charger as well and 15 extra cartomizers.  The kits in between the economy kit and the high end kit include different amounts of cartomizers.

The vapor production from the Cloud 9 502 E Cigarette is good.  It is not the most we have seen but is the equivalent of the amount of smoke that comes from an analog cigarette. The throat hit is solid as well to emulate the sensation of smoking.  The style is superior, especially if you get the all black version that looks really slick.  The white and tan version looks just like a cigarette and is great for those trying to match a cigarettes look.

The Cloud 9 501 E Cigarette is the three piece design that doesn’t live up to the 502 E Cig by Cloud 9.  The 501 E Cigarette comes with two batteries, 1 atomizer, 5 cartridges, 1 user manual, and 1 wall charger.  You can also get packages to include up to 50 cartridges and a USB charger for under $90.00.

The style is one of the best features of this e-cigarette.  It comes with batteries in three different color choice: White, Black, and Pink.  The cartridges are tan or black and it is around the size of a normal analog cigarette.  The place where the 501 E Cig comes up short is the atomizer and cartridges.  The cartridges are difficult to get off the atomizer to refill and the atomizer does not produce much vapor at all.  The throat hit is still pretty good, but not as good as the 502 E Cigarette that Cloud 9 makes.  It is important to point out that Cloud 9 offers some great liquid and can really save you money.  The liquids taste great so even if you don’t buy an e cig, check out their liquids and get some of them!

Overall the 502 E Cigarette is a solid choice for most starter that smoke around .75 packs a day.  The 501 E Cig is probably best for light smokers that are under a half pack a day.  If you are looking for a good value e cigarette then choose Cloud 9.  They are not the best but they are far from the bottom of the barrel.  It really is a middle of the road e cigarette.

Also known as E-Smoke Stop, ESmoke Freedom has the perfect electronic cigarette for you whether you are a regular smoker or just a social smoker. In this case, we look at the Trilogy which is meant for a light smoker. It is only slightly larger than a cigarette, yet it creates a ton of vapor.

The Trilogy starter kit comes with:

The vapor that this little Trilogy ecig makes is ridiculous. I’ve used plenty of super-mini electronic cigarettes and none of them have come anywhere close to the Trilogy in vapor production. Even crazier is that the Trilogy makes all of this vapor in about five seconds which is when the auto cut-off initiates.

My Trilogy starter kit came with high-strength tobacco pre-filled cartridges. I also got a pack of high-strength mint cartridges. Both flavors taste great and have a subtle but satisfying taste. The mint flavor is so subtle that I can only really taste the mintiness after I exhale, but I like this a lot. Unfortunately there is little-to-no throat-hit with the stock cartridges. However, after I vaped all of the e-liquid out of one of the cartridges (which took about 10 cigarettes worth of vaping) I refilled the cartridge with some high nicotine Cinnamon Roll Nobacco Juice from Vapor 4 Life and the throat-hit was much more noticeable. I believe that ESmoke Freedom’s very high nicotine level e-liquids would also give more of a throat-hit.

Even though a stronger throat-hit can be achieved by using different e-liquids, I would still only suggest the Trilogy to light and social smokers because of the battery life. The small batteries only last for about an hour when vaping regularly. This isn’t enough battery life if you are using this kit while you are away from a power source for an extended time. Luckily, the batteries also charge in an hour or less.

The Trilogy electronic cigarette is small and light. It looks and feels just like a traditional cigarette and creates a surprising amount of vapor. The stock flavors are also very tasty but the lack of throat-hit might cause some ESmoke Freedom customers to look elsewhere for stronger e-liquid. Regardless, this electronic cigarette is high-quality and ESmoke Freedom’s customer service is great. If you know someone who “only smokes when they drink” or only smokes a few cigarettes a day, do them a favor and get them the Trilogy.

I’m not sure what is going on with the GreenPuffer electronic cigarette by Vapor Corp (Fifty-One), but we got the kit and want to share all of our reviews with you, so here goes…

Before getting the starter kit, I did a little research. I was able to find the GreenPuffer website by navigating through Fifty-One’s “About” page. When I got to the site everything was presented very nicely, but I started noticing a few oddities. Pictures were missing on certain pages and the site’s layout would get all messed up occasionally. It was apparent that this is a brand new product.

When the GreenPuffer kit showed up on my doorstep, I decided to do the review right away. I noticed one difference from any other kit right away – one of the electronic cigarettes was fully assembled in the box. Most e-cig companies wouldn’t ship their products like this because the treatment that the USPS gives packaging could cause the battery to activate, which can cause issues with the atomizer. However, after testing the e-cig, there didn’t seem to be any ill-effects from sending the unit together.

Our GreenPuffer starter kit came with:

• 2 x Automatic Batteries with Orange LED – one short & one long
  • The website states one battery in some spots, and two in others but in the same length. It also shows a green tip.
• 5 x Tobacco Leaf Cartomizers (Mint Leaf is also available)
  • The website and packaging show white cartridges but mine arrived in the tan color.

  • The website shows a completely different charger when you click on the starter kit image on the homepage (noticing a theme?).

After my first drag on the GreenPuffer, I almost wanted to put it down and never pick it up again. I wasn’t able to pull any vapor into my mouth and instead, got a nice dose of e-liquid on my tongue. I tried changing the cartridge and had the same results. I then realized that by slightly unscrewing the cartomizer, air was able to flow through and I got a massive amount of vapor. The throat hit was also pleasant but I was very unimpressed by the flavor. It tasted stale and the only thing I liked about it was that it didn’t have the usual sugary taste of many other tobacco flavors. After making myself use the GreenPuffer for about a week, the taste is growing slightly on me but I still prefer most other e-liquids over this Original Leaf flavor.

I believe that we were sent one of the first GreenPuffer kits ever put together. Fifty-One isn’t really promoting this brand yet, and obviously there are a lot of loose ends left. Hopefully this means that they are still developing this product further. I wish I would have waited longer to order the GreenPuffer as I really enjoy the other two-piece electronic cigarettes by this company. We will let you know if we hear of any changes to the GreenPuffer

The Tango is packaged and branded much more nicely than the Trilogy. The design is very eye catching. My Tango starter kit came with high tobacco cartomizers and I also got some menthol cartomizers on the side. I started out with the tobacco cartomizer. On first drag, the Tango didn’t create much vapor. However, the taste and throat hit were very nice. The tobacco flavor is very subtle and enjoyable. Next I tried the menthol cartomizer. This flavor is a decent representation of traditional menthol cigarettes but still has a slight spearmint taste. From the start, the vapor production with the menthol cartomizer was less than from the tobacco cartomizer, but the throat hit was stronger. Eventually after using both cartomizers for about 15 minutes, each began creating much more vapor. Overall, I really enjoy the tastes and throat hits from the Tango cartomizers. (more…)

Fifty-One’s The Trio can been seen in almost every gas station in my area now. The real shame in it, few carry The Duo as well. The Trio e cigarette was sent to us for review and we will go over the contents, the use, and general opinions in this review. The kit comes with:

The Trio electronic cigarette has several things going well for it.  The first being the presentation upon receipt.  This kit looks professional and great.  The next is the company backing it.  Fifty-One is a large company that is not going anywhere without a fight.  They offer great customer service, fast shipping, and a lifetime replacement warranty.

When I first used the e cigarette, I did not get much vapor as you can see in the video review.  The atomizer needs to be primed before it will produce better vapor.  So do not be turned off by the first couple puffs.  It does get better and produces an amount of vapor that is the equivalent to the smoke you would get from your cigarettes. It produces more vapor than products from Blu and Luci, but is still no where close to the Duo by Fifty-One.  The vapor amount would be adequate for the average consumer, but I am on the side that enjoys more vapor.

The throat hit was minimal with this electronic cigarette, which is not a bad thing for everyone.  Most social smokers or light smokers do not like an electronic cigarette that provides a harsh feeling.  Being a heavy smoker, I actually enjoy the stronger throat hit.

The taste was good, close to a tobacco, but not quite the same as your regular cigarettes.  However, we do advise that no e cigarette will ever taste exactly like a cigarette because the science behind them is different and there is no burning occurring that produces the general taste of a cigarette.  Keep in mind that with the Fifty-One products that doctors have supported them and stated that there are no carcinogens in their liquid.  So if you are looking for a smoking alternative without 4000+ chemicals, the Fifty-One ensure you are not ingesting that many chemicals to get your nicotine fix.

You can buy liquid from anyone and easily refill these cartridges, but if you want pre-filled cartridges, Fifty-One does offer those.  The flavors they offer are:

It is a three piece design that has a battery, reusable atomizer, and cartridges.  Smokers can buy the carts pre-filled or fill them on their own with any liquid.  When you get your kit, it will actually have pre-filled carts and you can change from there.  One of the unique features with the atomizer on this kit is that it has a self cleaning feature.  After you have reached 1500 puffs, the battery will continue to light for six seconds and a micro-processor will begin cleaning the unit automatically.  The claims are that the carts last around half a pack of traditional cigarettes.

When I first got this kit, I was impressed as usual with the presentation of the kit.  It comes in a nicely branded box and has the packing list right on the side.  You open it up to find two batteries that are the same length and one has the atomizer attached to it with a dummy cartridge over it to protect it.  Once you remove the top tray in the box, you find your five pack of cartridges, the USB charger, and the wall charger.  While these come with a charge already, we highly recommend you plug it in before using it and fully charge each battery.  After the first charge, it takes around 3-4 hours to charge each battery and that may change slightly depending on if you are using the USB or wall charger.

The mini e-rette e cig is around the size of a regular cigarette and very lightweight.  This can make it much easier for some to transition to this smoking alternative.  The first couple puffs offered less vapor as the atomizer primed, but after that the normal amount began to come out.  This does produce a fair amount of vapor for a small e cigarette and will satisfy most half a pack a day or less smokers out there.  The throat hit is decent, but not as strong as the regular e-rette electronic cigarette.  As far as consistency, it worked the same every time until you are out of liquid.  The tobacco flavor is great from e-rette and comes close to mimicking some traditional cigarettes out there.

I have tried almost every model of electronic cigarette on the market.  Electronic Cigarette Review after review and and many times I was left unsatisfied.  Today we introduce the true future of electronic cigarettes, the e-rette regular kit!  We remind you that at Electronic Cigarette Nation, we will not put up a product we cannot stand behind.

Electronic Cigarettes Inc. is the definition of cutting edge when it comes to electronic cigarettes.  They offer a great disposable, two solid models, a great screwdriver series, and are in developments for an American assembled brand in the near future.  This is one of the few companies that is still looking to evolve.  It seems as though a lot of electronic cigarette companies get a product that sells and just leave it up.  Electronic Cigarettes Inc is not one of those companies.

Actress Katherine Heigl, the star of Knocked Up, Life As We all know It and gray’s Anatomy, recently appeared at the Late Show with David Letterman and touted the advantages of eco friendly cigarettes often referred to as e-cigs. During her interview, the conversation turned to smoking, and Heigl surprised Letterman by pulling out her eco friendly cigarette and smoking it on stage.

When speaking with Letterman, Heigl discussed her addiction to cigarettes and she mentioned the difficult experiences she had while seeking to give up smoking. She explained that she tried different remedies to kick the habit, but nothing worked.

Many people are still smoking cigarettes and paying the high cigarette prices. In Wisconsin, smokers are paying $6.50 – $7.50 a pack at the locations that offer good deals. It pains me to say good deals in that sentence as it sounds like an oxymoron. When we first started using the electronic cigarette, it was to save money. No longer am I spending $4928.00 a year for my wife and I to smoke a pack a day. We are now paying $1 or less a day (depending on the e cigarette we are using) for a total of $352 a year max. It seems like common sense to do it because you can take that money and buy a high def TV, a XBOX360, playstation 3, AND a WII and perhaps still have money left over. If that doesn’t motivate you to quit or switch over to electronic cigarettes, perhaps a couple other benefits will…

First of all, my house does not smell like crap anymore and I am not going outside at friends houses.  It gets really cold in Wisconsin and let me tell you that I did perfect the art of smoking a cigarette in under 2 minutes thanks to the harsh winters, but I really enjoy staying inside!  Also, I am not killing my dogs with second hand smoke anymore, quite a plus in my book.  My lungs feel better without the cigarette smoking and my wallet feels better without the high cigarette prices.

The FDA has been targeting electronic cigarette companies online much more than cigarette companies that sell online. Electronic Cigarette Nation is committed to doing anything to help prevent under 18 people from getting their hands on electronic cigarettes and we want the same for regular cigarettes. Many people have a lot of questions when they see me using my electronic cigarettes out and about.  I figured it would be a good opportunity to address some of those questions on a public basis.

1) You can smoke in here?

In Wisconsin, we have smoking bans almost everywhere you go.  I usually get people turning their head and whispering to the person next to them before they inquire about me smoking inside.  The electronic cigarette does not produce smoke, but instead a harmless water vapor is emitted that delivers nicotine only to the user.  There is no smoke, so no anti-smoking laws apply

2) Is it really better for you?

In my opinion, I love the Premium PR111, South Beach Smoke’s Deluxe kit, the NJoy NPro Duo, and my newest top one is The Duo by Fifty-One.  The truth is that these all are similar and offer the best case for the heavier smokers.  Lighter smokers most likely would want an e cigarette like Blu, The Trio by Fifty-One, or another smaller model.  There is no best electronic cigarette for everyone, or really any product.  Imagine if there was a best car and everyone drove the same car, doesn’t seem right does it?

Today was a challenging day for me, everything started off wrong.  In the past, I would have gone for a cigarette, but thank God for Vaping.  I was able to make it through the day using my e-rette electronic cigarette, njoy electronic cigarette, and premium e cigarette.  I usually carry multiple ones loaded with different flavors depending on what I am in the mood for.

Casa Del Sol: A Mexican Restaurant

Today I had a business meeting during lunch and we went to a Mexican Restaurant names Casa Del Sol.  After eating the oversized portions, I took out my electronic cigarette.  They initially came over and said I could not use it.  Once I explained what it was, how it worked, and that it was water vapor they let me continue to use it.  This was the most enjoyable vape of the day.

I had to swing by Target after work and pick up my wife.  I went in and while we were walking around, I took out my electronic cigarette and began to use it.  There was no feedback at all and only a couple of people looking at me oddly.  I half expected the security to find me from watching on the cameras, but nothing happened.

This morning I started by vaping in my house. This may not seem significant to some, but if you are married, you will understand. My wife hates smoking in the house because everything begins to smell like cigarettes, the walls change color over time, and it is just generally bad to sit in smoke all day and re-breath it in. I no longer ran around the office trying to find a way or an excuse to get outside to smoke a cigarette, my nicotine craving was satisfied.

The companies that do sell child proof nicotine liquid bottles usually only have safety caps on the bottles that they ship. The actual dropper tops that replace the original cap once opened are almost never child proof. We do not feel that the government should regulate electronic cigarettes or pre-filled cartridges, but if the manufacturers fail to take it upon themselves to make nicotine liquid refill bottles child proof, government regulation may be the only option.

Until suppliers make this a standard please keep your e-liquid out of the reach of children. If there is a chance that kids will come into contact with your e-liquid keep it secured out of their reach. E-liquid should be maintained the same as any other poisonous substances in your home.

Electronic Cigarettes have come under scrutiny lately.  Electronic Cigarette Nation is out to demystify the rumors and false statements made regarding e cigarettes and electronic cigars.  At the beginning on the year, a researcher names Thomas Eissenberg released a study that showed the electronic cigarettes he tried delivered no nicotine at all.  The study was done in 2008 and the brands were not from established, well respected companies.  He was quoted as saying the following:

“Consumers have a right to expect that products marketed to deliver a drug will work safely and as promised. Our findings demonstrate that the ‘electronic cigarettes’ that we tested do not deliver the drug they are supposed to deliver. It’s not just that they delivered less nicotine than a cigarette. Rather, they delivered no measurable nicotine at all. In terms of nicotine delivery, these products were as effective as puffing from an unlit cigarette,” said principal investigator Thomas Eissenberg, Ph.D., professor in the VCU Department of Psychology.

While this news came as shocking and devastating to the electronic cigarette industry and it’s followers, few accepted this notion and looked into the matter further.  It turns out that the electronic cigarettes sampled in the study were low end, low quality products.  Consumers from around the web flooded his email box with legitimate brands that he should try.  Few smokers could believe that they easily made the permanent transition to electronic cigarettes without getting any nicotine.  He tried the KR808D model (available from Premium, Green Smoke, E-Rette, etc.) and saw results that were completly out of touch with his initial study in finding that he did receive a substancial amount of nicotine without his heart level rising.

I would also like to report some results from some personal experimentation. At the suggestion of some of you, I purchased a KR808D-1 with various strength cartridges (Cowboy flavor). I used it last night (18 mg cartomizer) and tested my urine with Nicalert strips this morning. Result? 5/6. Clearly, this result is consistent with recent nicotine exposure. The confusing thing is this: I used the device while hooked up to a heart rate monitor which an observer was watching and I was not. My heart rate showed negligible changes during my many puffs on the device (it was one with a manual switch, which I was pressing; I was using the USB pass through; yes I got vapor, and yes I inhaled – quite the throat hit, I can assure you). Obviously I am not going to write a paper about this single experience, and there is much to be learned, but I certainly agree with the many of you who suggested that these devices may very well behave differently than the ones that I tested.

A few months ago we began discussions with the owner of a local chain of gas stations about selling electronic cigarettes in his locations. Luckily we realized that we weren’t prepared to handle the requirements of this endeavor. Since then we have learned a great deal about electronic cigarettes and what it takes to be successful in distributing them offline.

There are many gas stations and retail locations across the U.S. selling electronic cigarettes with varying degrees of success. Most of these locations can be found along the East Coast. However, pockets of retail stores selling electronic cigarettes are popping up in other areas including the Midwest where we are located. Just this evening I walked into a PDQ in Madison WI and found a small display for Fifty-One Electronic Cigarettes.

Fifty-One has recently taken over the kiosks in our two major local malls from Smoking Everywhere. Fifty-One is very similar to Smoking Everywhere except for the fact that they sell disposable e-cigs as well. I asked the cashier at PDQ how the e-cigs were selling and she told me that she had personally sold two kits in the past week and she thought others had been stolen. With the help of companies like Fifty-One, we hope that e-cigs become more popular and wish them the best in the offline arena.

Below are, in our eyes, the keys to succeeding in selling electronic cigarettes in retail:

1) Don’t Sell Disposables – Disposable electronic cigarettes are a great way to try out e-cigs before investing a lot of money. Unfortunately, the costs of disposables do not pay off when compared to how much use you get out of them. Every disposable we have used has equaled out to about a packs-worth of traditional cigarettes, and the cost for disposables is typically $14 or higher. Unless you are living in NYC, that isn’t a very good deal. Besides, it usually takes more than one cartridge of vaping to decide if you really enjoy electronic cigarettes. Stores will be better off selling a small, rechargeable kit with multiple cartridges. We suggest finding a low-priced KR-808 as this two piece model is simple, provides a lot of vapor, looks like a cigarette, and most new vapers fall in love quickly with them.

2) Make it Cheap – Carrying on from the point above, the initial high cost of electronic cigarettes is a huge deterrent for a lot of potential vapers. Most retail locations partner with established electronic cigarette companies because the companies will typically handle the displays and logistics. The downside is they will usually charge more to cover marketing and branding expenses. There are many generic suppliers that can provide very low-priced kits that perform exceedingly well.

3) Provide Learning Materials – Knowledge is king. Through my experience, I’ve come to realize that most people don’t fully understand what electronic cigarettes are, and view them as a gimmick or fad. The best way to combat this is to provide a little reading material. A stack of simple flyers next to the register explaining what electronic cigarettes are, and how they are better than analogs, should do the trick.

4) Lock it Up – The display case pictured above was covered on all sides but the back. It would be very easy to reach around the back and pull the electronic cigarettes and cartridges out. This was confirmed when the cashier told me that she believed more had been stolen than sold. Theft of electronic cigarettes would be unfortunate on multiple levels. It would hurt your revenue from the product, which makes it less likely to keep them in stock. It can also lead to electronic cigarettes falling into the hands of minors. If a parent catches their child with electronic cigarettes and learns that they came from the local gas station, that parent could very easily make a public outcry to not sell electronic cigarettes there.

5) Keep It Simple Stupid – One of the first things I learned while taking classes on marketing was “KISS,” or Keep It Simple Stupid. The truth is, if you bombard the customer with too much variety or information, they will be turned off. Even though there are hundreds of excellent flavors available for electronic cigarettes, we suggest selling only a few. Historically, the strongest sales of e-liquid flavors have been traditional tobacco, menthol, cherry and vanilla. Do your research and find a supplier with a good track record of happy customers.

6) Educate Employees – Every retail employee I’ve spoken to at stores that sell electronic cigarettes doesn’t seem to know very much about the products or the industry. I don’t suggest that they should take classes or become experts. But, they should have good knowledge about how it works, life of cartridges and batteries, and a general knowledge of the why the brand they are selling is better than the competition. Customers need to feel secure that what they are purchasing is useful and high-quality.

7) Don’t Sell to Minors – It may seem like common sense to keep electronic cigarettes out of the hands of minors. Unfortunately, in most states, there aren’t any laws banning sales to minors, and some suppliers have gotten in trouble for not taking this initiative. Electronic cigarettes aren’t any less addictive than traditional cigarettes, and sales of electronic cigarettes should be held to the same standards as traditional cigarettes.

If offline retailers follow the steps above, we truly believe that they will be successful in selling electronic cigarettes. This public exposure will also help broaden the impact of e-cigs and make them more commonplace. In another show of marketing genius, Green Smoke is offering Johannesburg, South Africa residents coupons for trading in their non-Green Smoke brand electronic cigarettes. This coupon is worth R300.00 (approx. $40 USD) and can be used toward purchasing Green Smoke products. The company suggests purchasing their starter kit and using the coupon toward their cartridges, which currently cost R99 for a five pack.

Green Smoke hopes that Johannesburg residents who are unhappy with their current brand of e-cig will take up this offer and become life-long Green Smoke customers. It takes a great deal of confidence in a product for a company to offer such a large discount in hopes of converting new customers.

Smokers have long been subject to special interest groups targeting them.  It is no different with electronic cigarettes.  As smokers face higher taxes and public humiliation for having to be segregated from the general population, lawmakers are always pushing to make matters worse.  The truth is, the government does not want you to quit smoking cigarettes.  They definitely don’t want you to switch to electronic cigarettes because they will lose all the tax dollars and have to raise taxes on the rest of America.

Smokers have had enough and are standing up around the world.  Electronic cigarettes have exploded in popularity in Europe and are now facing opposition.  We are not sure why no one wants to ban analog cigarettes.  If they are so bad for everyone, apply the laws fairly and ban them all.  At least that is the stance that Europeans are taking with a soaring number of petitions and protests.  In America, lawmakers will have to be willing to raise the taxes for every service you use if they push to ban smoking all together.

The good news, a hospital in Tampa has given it’s stamp of approval to electronic cigarettes on their premises.  If you are addicted to smoking, you know that your nicotine cravings must be satisfied.  I have to wake up early and get caffeine in my system before I get moving too far and I am sure most of America is the same.  When getting a caffeine fix, I can sit and my desk and continue to work while doing so.  In order to satisfy my nicotine cravings I have to stop working and walk far enough away from the building to smoke.  That all changed when I was introduced to electronic cigarettes.  Now I can “smoke” or vape at my desk.  There is no odor, no second hand smoke, and I am not ingesting thousands of chemicals just to get the nicotine.  The Tampa hospital took a productive gains standpoint when approving electronic cigarettes on their grounds.  The workers no longer need to go down many flights of stairs and hide, they just continue working while vaping with their e cig.

The hospital also reduced the amount of employees subject to second hand smoke and will drive down health costs, creating a great bottom line savings.  I have been vaping in my smoke-free workplace with no problem at all and have seen great productivity gains myself.  We have had vapers report that they have been able to use their e cig in airports, on airplanes, and in many other “smoke free” areas.

The American Association of Public Health Physicians (AAPHP) has petitioned the FDA to change the classification of electronic cigarettes to be changed to a Tobacco product and NOT a drug device combination. The FDA has used the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, 201(g) and 201(h) to try and control electronic cigarettes. The policy covering these products should be the new FDA/Tobacco legislation as a tobacco product according to the American Association of Public Health Physicians.

The AAPHP is also petitioning the FDA to change their high-ranking press release regarding electronic cigarettes that was issued on July 22nd, 2009. This petition has single handedly damaged the name of electronic cigarettes. The AAPHP has provided proof that the FDA needs to amend this document.
Joel L. Nitzkin, MD, MPH, DPA the Chair, Tobacco Control Task Force, American Association of Public Health Physicians (AAPHP) states that “reclassification of E-cigarettes to tobacco products could open the door to a new harm reduction component to current tobacco control programming. That new component, in turn, could rapidly and substantially reduce tobacco-related illness and death without increasing the numbers of teens initiating nicotine use.” This comes as a blow to the FDA’s statements regarding the safety of electronic cigarettes. Joel Nitzkin also points out that no money from electronic cigarette companies, tobacco companies, or any other source has been provided to them for their research and findings.

There currently are only two categories listed in the new FDA/Tobacco legislation, cigarettes and smokeless tobacco. Electronic Cigarettes do not fit in either of these categories so they request that they be put in a new category of nicotine vaporizers. They are requesting for them to be regulated the same as other tobacco products and warning labels to be put on ONLY for nicotine addiction. Electronic Cigarette Nation has been a strong supporter of certain laws changing regarding electronic cigarettes, such as age requirements and manufacturing requirements. The marketing material should also be regulated to ensure these are not targeting children. The quality of electronic cigarettes will rise and the wide variety of methods used to create the liquids will be consolidated into an approved method. This will increase the satisfaction and safety of electronic cigarette users.
The petition states ethical concerns as well, “FDA priorities are expected to be the protection of the public’s health. Agency decisions are expected to be based on the best available science. FDA should not mislead health-related organizations or the general public as to the health hazard posed by any product. FDA’s current stances relative to E cigarettes, as presented at the July 22, 2009 FDA press conference, fails on all three of these considerations.” As Americans, we trust in our government to be looking out for our best interests for the public. The FDA will need to read, review, and update their press release, which we understand will take time, however it should be posted within a month of acceptance of the science.
The AAPHP suggests that the risk of death would be less than 5% using electronic cigarettes based on the similar nature to other nicotine replacement products on the market today. The chemical Propylene glycol is recognized as safe and used in many products used in the food and drug industry today. The nicotine levels are similar to that of a cigarette according to the FDA’s study. The lives of 4 to 8 million of the current tobacco users could be saved over the next 20 years. The AAPHP believes that the deaths caused by tobacco products could drop to 10,000 a year after 20 years. The current death rate per year is 400,000+ people. These numbers are staggering and reaffirm what Electronic Cigarette Nation has believed this whole time regarding electronic cigarettes.

Most Americans want to quit smoking or know it is bad for them, however replacing the act of smoking is much more difficult compared to getting off the nicotine. Electronic Cigarettes offer multiple levels of nicotine and even a zero nicotine liquid. New Hampshire is the latest state to push for a ban on minors from purchasing electronic cigarettes.  Electronic Cigarette Nation Supports these measures in full.

There are two essential reasons that this is good news:

1)     We don’t want to see minors start smoking anything (analog cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, illegal drugs, etc.)

2)     When electronic cigarettes are accepted to be for adults only, there is no reason to ban them altogether unless you ban analog cigarettes (that wont happen)

The exciting thing about this story, the youth are the ones proposing it.  The high school students are shocked that their peers can walk into a store and buy an electronic cigarette today.  Electronic Cigarettes were made as an alternative for smokers and not for someone to start.  These have helped a vast amount of tobacco users toss their analog cigarettes aside once and for all.
